To answer trainman's question, luckily I don't have any cockroaches in my room! I haven't seen a cockroach since I've gotten here, however, one of my German friends who lives on the first floor says he's seen a cockroach. Oh, and actually on second thought, I think a girl who lives a couple doors down from me also saw a cockroach in her room. Besides that though, I've been pretty lucky in terms of cockroaches. I did have a spider in my room once or twice which looked pretty nasty. It had large pinchers and when I tried to crush it, it actually jumped a far distance away from me. Luckily, it was near the window and I was able to open the window and have it jump outside. Phew.

Ah yes, the ugly american, as your last commentor brings up. Whenever I left the country, I was always reminded what made me an American, (besides the shoewear, that is) and often felt good about getting back on American soil.

For one, I believe Americans have a culture of change, which would explain our fascination with the weather. But I always rememeber reading an article about a famous European, very wealthy, who was living in NyC. she told the interviewer that in Europe they did things because that was the way things were done. In America she said Americans say they do things because they feel like it. And she liked that life. It's just as important to learn what you are as to become familiar with a new and different culture.

Now I've got some spare time to write...
It interesting when all these cultures meet. From what I've heard the Swedish people have always been very good in English and as you mentioned maybe a bit stern. I know that, I, myself am not that talkative.

From where does the swedish people you have talked to, come from. There should be someone at least that comes from Lund University. In that case, say hello from the japanes classes here :P

Don't you have any writing sessions. Like writing sakubuns and such. That would really improve writing and grammar.. although I think it's very difficult. We do that here in our university, write a small sakubun about 400ji and then recieve feedback.

So do you meet any real Japanese people as well? In keio or somewhere else. Are there any clubs that you can participate in?

Ps. The americans are to be considered very forward and talkative, very social. If it's put in a negative way they are considered loud.. ^^
Look forward to your next entry.
